Celebrating International Day of Happiness: Building a Happier World Together

Once upon a time, in a small village, there was a man named Sam who always complained about his life. He thought he had nothing to be happy about and believed that happiness was just a temporary feeling that came and went.

One day, a wise old man visited the village and noticed Sam’s negative attitude. He asked Sam to follow him into the woods and led him to a nearby stream. There, the old man asked Sam to look into the water and tell him what he saw.

Sam looked into the water and said, “I see my reflection.”

The old man then handed Sam a rock and asked him to throw it into the stream. As soon as the rock hit the water, the reflection disappeared, and ripples spread across the surface of the stream.

The old man then asked Sam to look into the water again and asked, “What do you see now?”

Sam looked into the water and said, “I see the ripples that the rock created.”

The old man smiled and said, “That’s the thing about happiness, Sam. It’s like the ripples in the water. It may come and go, but it leaves an impact on everything around it. Happiness is not just a feeling, it’s a state of being.”

From that day on, Sam’s perspective changed. He started to appreciate the little things in life and found happiness in the simplest of moments. He even started a Happiness Club in the village, spreading joy and positivity to everyone around him.

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated on March 20th every year. The day was first observed in 2013 after the United Nations General Assembly recognized happiness as a fundamental human goal and called for a more inclusive, equitable, and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all people.

The theme for the 2023 International Day of Happiness is “Building a happier world together”, which emphasizes the need for collective action and solidarity to create a happier and more sustainable future.
